Barcelona quirky and trendy, the 5 best free things to do in June

Posted on May 24, 2016 |

These days while tasting the warmer summer feeling, thanks to Barcelona’s privileged weather. the agenda is filling up with many, many top things to do in June. Plenty of music this month though, LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead and many other top music bands will be playing at top barcelona music festivals. As usual, we curated the 5 best free things to do in the City of Counts, always quirky and trendy.

1. Simply enjoy the beach

The great moment for a walk along the beach at night or jump into the sea during the day has arrived and we cannot be more happy about it, especially because it is ¨chiringuito¨ time! The place to be in our modest opinion, especially on the evenings, as it is the perfect spot to sip a cocktail while sightseeing the sunset over the beach and then having a fantastic dinner under the stars. There are many chiringuitos in Barcelona and for a good insight we just wrote a piece about the best beach restaurants in Barcelona.

As for the beach scene, close to the the city bustling center you can either head to the top Barcelona beaches: Barceloneta, Bogatell, Mar Bella or explore the long sand stretches of Castelldefels just 15 minutes away. Our friends from Travel and Leisure wrote a good piece describing beaches in Barcelona.

2. Attend one of the free side events from Primavera Sound

In case you missed the 2 minutes online ticket availability for Primavera Sound – seriously, I am not joking, the line-up for this year is top, and my dream to watch and listen to Radiohead alive will remain a dream for another year – be aware that there are plenty of free concerts happening from now on in different venues of Barcelona.

Primavera Sound opening day will be free to the public and the Primavera al Raval showcase free concerts for 3 days, too good to be true! but it is! yeahhhh! These top events will happen at the CCCB, the place to visit in Barcelona in case you want to feel the eclectic vibe of El Raval Neighborhood local experience.

In case someone wants to go with Andre to the Mudhoney free concert please shout it out on our comment section below. The first one will get a free food tour in Sant Antoni and El Poblesec. Promised!

3. Music at Barcelona parks

Traditionally, every summer – from June to August – Barcelona city hall organize a series of classical and jazz music concerts at the city parks. Locally known as musica al parcs, where promising young  local musicians as well as renowned ones enchant souls with their rhythms under the stars. This is where the locals go, and constitutes one of the top things to see in Barcelona. While writing this post the final schedule is yet to be announced, but as a piece of advice, just take a look at the advertisement on the Barcelona streets. Certainly these days if you stare at promotional badges hanging from the trees, you will spot ¨Musica al parcs¨ with the detailed concert list.

4 The Revetlla de Sant Joan (St. John’s Eve celebrations)

Party all night long on the night of 23rd June celebrating the summer solstice in any Barcelona neighborhood party with lots of bonfires, fireworks displays and revelry. Don’t forget your swim suit in case you are close to the sea as many party goers will jump into the water as this is the night when water is believed to be full of curative powers. Along the celebration have some cava and taste the traditional Coca de Sant Joan (a catalan sweet bread). This is what we consider a truly Barcelona unique attraction.

5. Pride Barcelona

At the end of June and towards July, attend the Barcelona LGTBI rights celebration which includes a fantastic agenda with parties, concerts, activities for kids, a bicycle ride in the city and the ¨Living Library¨, a participatory space where books are people that are regular victims of discrimination. We are proud to live in such an open city as Barcelona, where there is still much to do, but certainly less than in other cities of the world. Join Pride Barcelona!
