Best Beaches in The Costa Brava

Posted on March 25, 2018 |

The Costa Brava is the coastal region of Northern Spain called Catalonia. Costa Brava means rugged coast and that is definitely true. Although rugged there are many sandy beaches dotted along the coast. This blog is all about the best beaches for various reasons, including the amazing Catalan coastal gastronomy, all along the Costa Brava.

Getting to Costa Brava from Barcelona requires renting a car or jumping into a bus. Alternatively, there are some locations where people can reach by train these amazing beaches. If not, you can fly or find a holiday package.

Platja De Treumal

This is one of the most quintessential Costa Brava beaches. With a botanical cacti garden just behind you and crystal clear waters in front of you, this beach is absolutely stunning. Spend the day suntanning, doing yoga or swim in the warm clear waters.

Sant Pol De Mar – Secret Beach

This secret hidden beach is just north of Barcelona, and actually, it is not part of the Costa Brava but it does give a glimpse of it. The beach can be reached by a railway line that follows the coast up north to Sant Pol De Mar. This beach is great if you want to get out of the hustle and bustle of Barcelona beaches and just relax.

Empuriabrava

This is a long sandy beach in the Costa Brava at 1575 m long. It’s very windy and wild. The beach is located in a Natural Park near the city of Empuriabrava. This beach has it all, you can enjoy kitesurfing, waking the dogs, biking along the promenade and a lively atmosphere.

Playas De Calella

This very family friendly beach with crystal clear blue waters. Unlike other beaches where the activities can be more centred around adults this beach is a sunny and warm spot for the whole family to kick back and play in the sand.

Fenals Beach

Located on the beautiful Mediterranean Sea this beach has a long promenade and beautiful gravelly beach with a gradual drop into the sea which means it’s perfect for swimming. The beach itself is located in a sheltered bay from winds by a large hill that separates the beach from Lloret beach. A definite beach not to miss when you are in The Costa Brava.

Tip: along the area, you can also tour amazing Catalonian vineyards
