5 Reasons For Not Traveling, And Why They’re Wrong

Posted on July 1, 2016 |

Whether or not they desire to travel, many people rarely or never do. They make excuses about why they cannot or will not go on a trip and usually regret these choices later on. Check out the list below for the most common reasons people give for not traveling and why they are totally wrong.

  1. Traveling is Too Expensive

For some types of vacations, like an all-inclusive luxury resort for example, this can be true. But it doesn’t have to be! Research cheaper places to vacation, especially during off-season months when tickets and accommodation are cheaper (for example Barcelona is just great as weather is mild and you can feel the city vibes) or take a trip closer to home to save money. If you can’t afford international airfare, take a trip by car or train to a neighboring state. Even if you do spend a lot of money, the memories you make on vacation are worth so much more than whatever else you may have spent that money on, like a new TV, car or smartphone.

  1. I Don’t Want to Travel Alone

If you are single and none of your friends want or can afford to travel, you might feel stuck at home for fear of traveling alone, especially if you are a woman. Thankfully, there are tons of travel companies that offer group tours! Besides choosing your vacation destinations, you can also often choose what age group to travel with and if you want a singles-only tour. Some cruise lines are even getting on board with the idea by offering solo traveler cabins. This is the best way to see the world and make new friends while getting exclusive guided tours and not having to worry about your well-being. 1. I Don’t Know Where to Go

This is not the stone age! We live in an era when we have access to more information than you could ever read, so saying you don’t know where to go is no excuse. If you have a city or even a country in mind, search review websites, local blogs and forums to find the best attractions, hotels, and restaurants there, food tour companies usually have an interesting curation of local places to eat. If you do not even have a starting point for your destination, ask friends for suggestions or scroll through travel and lifestyle websites until you find something that sparks your interest and fits your budget.

  1. Booking Travel is Too Much Work

If you try to do all the research for flights, hotels, food, and activities by yourself, it can be a lot of work. Thankfully, travel agents are still a thing! Their services are usually free or cheap and they can book your entire dream vacation in a fraction of the time you could do it yourself. Plus, they know how to find the best deals for the lowest prices, so even if they do charge you, you may still end up saving money.

  1. I Hate Flying

Flying is a common fear because it is so unnatural to us but it still shouldn’t hold you back from seeing what the world has to offer! Go to therapy or learn meditative breathing techniques before you go to help you get over your fear. Distracting yourself with a book or music or just squeezing your travel companion’s hand can also help in a pinch. Traveling opens your mind, allows you to learn about other cultures and make us all happy. And in case you still don’t like flying and you need to, look for boat rides to cross seas and oceans. The effort is worth!
